Frogs and Toads!

A week ago we went to Lake Lagunita with some friends to find frogs and toads. It isn't actually a lake, but a lake bed with a few small ponds in it. 

We had no trouble finding toads. Newly hatched Western toads were hopping around all over the place. Every child that was brave enough was able to catch some.

There was also a species of tree frog, although they were much harder to catch, and they jumped right out of the bucket after they were caught. Here's one that Justin caught.

We let all the toads go as we were getting ready to leave, and I used the bucket to catch a tadpole, which was no easy feat. I wanted to take it home and watch it change into a toad with the boys. But, I set the bucket down for a second to help a child put on his shoes and Lucas dumped out my tadpole. I tried to rescue it, but wasn't able to. Maybe another time.
